Consignment shop owners, YYC and YEG consignment stores

The Consignment Community

Community over competition isn’t just a mantra for us—it’s the backbone of how we operate. Our business coach made sure it stuck, and we’re so grateful for it. In the world of retail, where competition can feel like a race to the bottom, we’ve learned that supporting each other makes the whole experience better for everyone.

Back when Dara and I had our own separate stores, you’d think we’d be sizing each other up. Nope. We were chatting, sharing ideas, and even sending customers to each other. Why? Because we believe that shoppers deserve all the variety they can get. There’s more than enough love to go around, especially in YEG. Besides, other shop owners are just like us—people with a dream, hustling every day to bring something special to the community.

We’re out here doing what we love, not just for the sales, but for the joy of seeing people light up when they find that perfect piece. We’re doing it for the consigners who trust us with their treasures and for the customers who want to step away from fast fashion and into something sustainable. We’ve built our business to slow down the fast fashion craze, encouraging second-hand shopping as the way to go. And what better way to boost that community than by pointing customers and consigners to other shops we admire? It’s like crafting a network of fashion finds throughout the city.

If you’ve popped into our shop, you’ve probably heard us mention other spots to check out, especially if you’re from out of town. We’re quick to recommend our favourite local gems because, honestly, why wouldn’t we? Community is about sharing, not hoarding. Plus, it feels amazing to help a fellow small business owner. Every shop brings its own flavour and vibe, and we think that’s what makes the shopping scene so rich.

Recently, we had the absolute pleasure of heading to Calgary to meet with other consignment shop owners. Let me tell you, it was like meeting long-lost retail cousins. We talked shop—literally. Marketing, customer experiences, how we’re all trying to keep up with this ever-evolving industry. But more than that, we just got each other. There's something magical about being in a room full of people who understand the grind, the hustle, and the passion. It’s like retail therapy in the best way possible.

At the end of the day, we believe in lifting each other up because, honestly, it’s more fun. Watching someone else succeed doesn’t take anything away from us—it adds to the whole experience. We’re all dreamers with big hearts and a love for what we do. So why not share that love, send people to each other’s stores, and celebrate the wins together?

Shopping local, building community, and celebrating the beauty of second-hand clothing—it’s what we live for. And we’re proud to be part of a community that feels the same way.
