So, you’ve decided to clean out your closet, we love that! And now you're probably knee-deep in hangers, sentimental hoodies & graphic tees, and that one dress or pair of jeans you might wear again, maybe. Now comes the big question:
What’s actually worth consigning?
We got you.
Let’s break it down.
YEEEES Consign it.
These are the goodies we LIVE for:
- Gently loved pieces in great shape
- On-trend or timeless. Basically things that are no more than 2-3 years old
- Spring/Summer right now!
- Brands people know + love (Aritzia, Zara, Lululemon, Free People, Oak + Fort, etc.)
- Clothes you’d honestly consider buying again if you saw them on our racks (that's the real test and something we think about when sorting)
MAYBE. Toss it in the YES pile.
Don’t overthink it. If you’re questioning a piece, just add it to your consignment pile and bring it in after May 1st when we’re open for intake again. We’ll do a quick review and let you know what’s a yes, what’s a no, and what’s a “CUTE, but bring back in the fall please"
P.S. We don’t wash or do major repairs on items, so make sure everything’s clean and ready for its close-up. We steam, sanitize, and smooth out the little stuff. Trim threads, scrub shoes and bags and even condition "fiiiiiine leather goods" (15% off if you can tell us what show this is from haha!) It makes us so sad when we have to pass on an item because it needs to be laundered.
NOPE.
- Pilled, stained, stretched, or smells
- Fast fashion (like Shein, we have tried to sell these products but no one is buying them which is a whole other problem because that means that all these items are most likely just ending up in a landfill. PLEASE DO NOT ORDER FAST FASHION)
- Outdated styles. Styles from 5-15 years ago. Anything 20 years or older is considered vintage.
- Workwear that’s too officey, or anything giving “business casual”
No shade, just honesty. Some things just aren’t R.A.K. material, and that’s okay! We still love you (and your closet). We just have to pick the best of the best because our space is tiny and we know what our shoppers are looking for.
PRO TIP: The “Would I (or someone I know) Be Excited to Buy This Today?” Rule
If the answer is no, let it go.
Got questions? Bring ’em. We love helping you decide!
SIDE NOTE...
We know it’s hard to sort through your own clothes. Like, really hard. It’s not just a pair of jeans or a cute top. It’s the dress you wore to your best friend's wedding, the outfit you landed your dream job in or the sweater from those family photos you’ll never forget (even if your kid, and maybe you, cried through half of them haha). Clothes hold memories. We get attached.
So when we’re sorting, we are doing it with huge hearts. Seriously. If we say “no thank you” to something, please know we’re only saying “no” to the item, not to you, not to your style, and definitely not to your memories. We have to be super mindful about what our customers are looking for because, at the end of the day, we want your pieces to sell. And we want to make YOU money too.
It’s never about anything being “not good enough”, it’s about making the best matches for the shop. We are literally a match making service for clothes and shoppers!
